Chalmers Day learned his art from the Hopi master, Preston Monongye.
In 1976, he participated in Preston’s jewelry class. Preston continued to
advise Chalmers in the development of his jewelry. He has won numerous
awards and has been featured in many exhibitions. Day specializes in very
detailed and sophisticated designs in the overlay technique. The quality
of his work is exceptional. His compositions include village scenes, cornfields,
kachinas, and more, sometimes in a single piece…. His designs depict the life
of the Hopi, their migrations, ceremonies and spiritual figures. He is recognized
as one of the greatest overlay jewelers of our time.
